Job Description: Kitchen Worker

Reports To: Head Chef / Kitchen Manager

Job Summary:

The kitchen worker is responsible for supporting the overall operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the efficient functioning of kitchen activities. This role is essential in contributing to a smooth and productive kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Assist in preparing ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and dicing vegetables and fruits; measure and mix ingredients according to recipes.
  • Cooking Support: Aid chefs and cooks in cooking tasks, including basic cooking, frying, and baking as directed.
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing: Clean and sanitize workstations, countertops, and kitchen equipment; wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure kitchen equipment is clean and in good working condition; report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Stock Management: Assist in receiving and storing deliveries; monitor stock levels and inform the chef of shortages.
  • Waste Management: Dispose of kitchen waste and recyclables responsibly; ensure garbage bins are regularly emptied and clean.
  • Support Staff: Provide assistance to chefs, cooks, and other kitchen staff as needed; perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Any level of education but needs to know how to read and write.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Skills:

o       Basic knowledge of kitchen operations and food handling.

o       Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

o       Good physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor.

o       Effective teamwork skills.

  • Physical Requirements:

o       Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.

o       Ability to lift and carry heavy items (often up to 25 Kgs).

  • Other Requirements:

o       Punctuality and reliability.

o       Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment: Work in a busy kitchen environment with exposure to heat, noise, and cooking odors.
